Perlane is a popular dermal filler which is typically used to treat wrinkles, creases, folds, and other lines, to fill sunken depressions in the skin, to treat some scarring, and to rejuvenate aging skin, making it appear fuller and firmer. The filler is also a popular choice for lip augmentation procedures. Perlane is derived form hyaluronic acid, a substance which occurs naturally in skin and other connective tissue, attracting and binding water which leads to a plumper, firmer appearance. The acid also serves to protect surrounding tissues, and to provide nutrients and moisture to those tissues.
The form of hyaluronic acid used in Perlane is not derived from animals, which means the risk of allergic reaction or hypersensitivity is greatly reduced and there is no need for testing prior to treatment with the filler.
During the Perlane injection procedure, your specialist may apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize discomfort, although many patients undergo the procedure successfully and comfortably without topical numbing.
Most procedures with Perlane can be performed in 30 to 45 minutes. There is no downtime associated with the use of Perlane injections, and individuals can return to their regular routines immediately after treatment.
Most individuals need only one treatment of Perlane dermal filler to achieve satisfactory results, but in some cases where creases are especially pronounced, or in lip augmentation procedures, an additional treatment may be required. The results are evident immediately following the procedure, usually persisting for 6 to 8 months after treatment. Followup injections of Perlane may be used to extend results. Many individuals combine Perlane injections with other procedures, including Botox , to achieve greater overall results.
The cost of Perlane dermal filler injection treatment will vary based on the size and extent of the treatment area, generally ranging from $500 to $900.
