Tazarotene (Tazorac) is a prescription topical retinoid sold as a cream or gel. This latest vitamin A derived product has been approved for the treatment of psoriasis and acne. Its effects on the skin have led the cosmetic physicians to also use it to treat sun damaged skin. Tazorac is available as a topical cream in two concentration strengths (0.05% and 0.1%).

The skin must be gently washed with soap and the cream is applied once a day on the target area until the lesion disappears.
The drug is not without side effects. The most common complaints about Tazorac are
- dry skin
- worsening of the acne
- itching
- redness
- peeling of the skin

- sun sensitivity
These side effects are usually observed after prolonged use of Tazorac. Even though the side effects are unpleasant, they are mild and disappear once the drug use has been stopped.
