Skin Wrinkle Treatment with Juvederm

Juvederm is one more tissue filler which has recently become available. Injections of Juvederm can rapidly correct most of the facial flaws, aging spots and wrinkles. Juvederm is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a normal component of the lower layers of the skin. Hyaluronic acid provides support, hydration and cushioning to the underlying structures of the skin. Juvederm is a replacement for the hyaluronic acid.

When injected Juvederm fills up the lines, creases and furrows on the entire face. It is particularly suitable for treatment of mild to moderate wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid, a major component of the body, disappears with aging. This loss of hyaluronic acid results in the formation of lines and wrinkles on the face. Juvederm gel when injected into the skin in tiny amounts can replace the lost volume, raising and smoothing out unwanted wrinkles.

In addition to treating wrinkles, Juvederm is also a good volume enhancer and can improve the contour and plump up the cheeks and lips.

The major advantages of Juvederm include:

It is a synthetic chemical with no animal or human contents and thus the chances of an allergic reaction are nil.

Because it is non allergenic, there is no pretesting required. The chemical can be injected on the same day as the consult.

Juvederm mimics a natural component of the skin components and acts as such.

However, despite all its benefits, Juvederm treatment is not permanent. The wrinkles and lines re-appear within 6-9 months and repeat treatments are required.

Juvederm is used to treat lines and wrinkles in all age groups but is best recommended for the very fine lines in the younger age group (30-55 years).

The actual treatment with Juvederm only takes a few minutes and despite what the physician says, it is moderately painful. Most physicians will numb the area with a local anesthetic before making the injections.

The results of the injection are visible immediately.

Juvederm has successfully been used to treat

- crow's feet

- fine lines around the mouth an lips

Side effects of Juvederm include

- redness

- pain

- skin discoloration (rare)

- skin nodules (rare but may be permanent)

The major side effects are transient in nature and resolve in a week after the injections.

Juvederm should not be used in:

- Pregnant females

- Breast feeding females

- Individuals with acute acne

- Individuals who are prone to keloids

-individuals who have collagen vascular disease

The cost of Juvederm is based on the amount injected and the severity of the skin condition. The average cost of Juvederm is between $300 and $1,000 per syringe, depending on the formula used. In many cases a second syringe is used which is available at a reduced price.
