Saving Money for Fertility Treatments

When a couple decides that the time is right both emotionally and physically to have a child, it really is the beginning of a special journey. So, in the case of heterosexual couples, they start actively having unprotected sex. If, however, after a year of doing this and having no luck as far as conception goes, then most couples start looking into the various advances in medical technology that are available.

One of the most prevalent fertility treatments that are available today is in vitro fertilization, so it is very important that prospective couples investigate what the in vitro cost will be. In order to have a better understanding of what the in vitro cost will be to begin with, it is very important to know what in vitro fertilization really is.

First of all, in most heterosexual couples (the process will vary for homosexual couples), this involves taking the sperm of the male and the egg of the female, and fertilizing the egg in a laboratory setting. During this time, the female will need to take various fertility medications to prepare her womb for the pregnancy. Then, the next step is implanting the fertilized egg into the female. If the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus, then a pregnancy begins.

So, taking the overall process into consideration, the in vitro cost will be in the range of several thousand dollars for each round of treatment. For those couples who require a sperm or egg donor, the cost will be higher. Also, it is important to note that various fertility clinics will charge varying fees, and a couple who decides that they would like to travel to the clinic in question will have to make sure that they are aware of those additional fees.

Something that many couples wonder about is whether or not health insurance is something that will be able to successfully cover some parts of the procedure. Usually, the answer to this question is no, because in vitro fertilization is considered to be an elective procedure. However, in order to know the answer to this question for sure, it is important that the couple do some research about the topic in accordance with their current health plan.

When it comes to the various ways in which couples pay the in vitro cost, it all has to do with how financially secure the couple was in the first place. In general, the clinic will have a payment plan, in which the couple will, over time, pay monthly fees. Many couples choose this option.

Something that other couples choose to do is pay the costs on their credit card, or spilt up the costs among a couple of different credit cards. This is really not a good option, because the finance charges have the potential to place a couple quite deeply in debt. Getting a loan is sometimes an option, but again, it is important to keep the finance charges in mind. So, in the quest to have a family, it is extremely important to have patience!
