Sanyo introduced two LCD portable projectors, the PLC-XC55 with 3100 lumens and the PLC-XC50 with 2600 lumens. Intended for the education and business markets, both come equipped with Sanyo's Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) system and several security features.

These two models mark the first time Sanyo has integrated its AMF system in a portable projector. The filtration system consists of a filter cartridge with 10 lengths of filter material and an airflow sensor that detects when the airflow is obstructed by dust then advances a clean section of the filter as needed. Each filter lasts approximately 3,000 hours.

"These new high brightness projectors significantly lower a school system's cost of ownership by reducing filter maintenance costs by a factor of 10," said Mark Holt, vice president and general manager for Sanyo's Presentation Technology Division.

To prevent theft, Sanyo also integrated a security bar in the corner of the projectors that accepts security wires up to 11mm in diameter. An on-board pin number locks the projector when it's not in use, plus only the designated administrator is allowed to operate on-board buttons and logo-controlled settings.

To increase its use as a multimedia device--and be loud enough for the average classroom--the PLC-SC55 and PLC-XC50 have an internal 7-watt loudspeaker, reducing the need for an external audio system.
