Invitro Fertilization Process

Invitro fertilization process or IVF offers infertile couples who have struggled to conceive on their own the opportunity to have a child. With this procedure, a man's sperm and the woman's egg are united together in a laboratory dish, where fertilization occurs. The ensuing embryo would then be placed in your uterus in hopes that it would implant and develop naturally. Normally, 2-4 embryos would be placed in your uterus at one time. Each attempt is called a cycle.

If you have a blocked or severely damaged or no fallopian tubes at all, then IVF would be the preferred procedure for you. This procedure is also used when infertility is brought on by endometriosis or if your mate has a low sperm count.

Invitro Fertilization Process

In this procedure, eggs will be surgically aspirated from your ovary under ultrasound guidance and your mate's sperm will be mixed in a laboratory dish. Over the next 40 hours, the eggs will be examined to see if they have become fertilized by the sperm and are dividing into cells. Once the eggs fertilize, they will be called embryos and will be placed in your uterus, thus bypassing the fallopian tubes where this development normally takes place.

In order for you to get pregnant, an egg must be released from your ovary and unite with a sperm. This is called fertilization and usually takes place inside your fallopian tubes. However, if you have problems fertilizing an egg in this manner, it can be done outside your body in a laboratory and this is called in vitro fertilization.

Your fertility specialist will remove eggs from your body, your mate will donate sperm, and the two will be joined together in a Petri dish in the laboratory. Once they have united and become one the embryo (s) can be placed back inside your uterus so that they can continue to grow. In vitro fertilization can help you and your mate achieve pregnancy if you are having difficulties getting pregnant.

To learn more about the invitro fertilization process you should contact a fertility specialist in your area to see what fertility options are available to you and your partner at this time.
